Weekly Digest #1

Happy Monday, March 9th, aka one week until medical students all over the world (literally) find out if we match (but not where) (because that would make too much sense and the hazing isn’t over yet).

So, I’m going to start doing these weekly digests more for myself to look back on than anything. Years ago, I had a Tumblr, and it was interesting to go back and read the ebbs and flows of life: a good grade, a failed exam, a first date, a breakup, spurts of writing, then spurts of photography, one year I took two euro trips with my friends (haven’t been back since), etc. So maybe this will be kinda like that. Anyways, for the digest itself:

Gaming: I am 50 hours into Dragon Age: Inquisition. Since my first gaming post, I’ve come a long way, learned a lot, and even dabbled in some tabletop games. There is going to be a whole post coming on my thoughts & feelings on both the DA and Mass Effect series, since I have played them too, since that original post. But yeah, loving DAI right now. There was a moment when I got a little distracted by side quests and bored, but I switched up my approach and am now just doing the inner circle questions/inquisitor ones, so the plot has come back into focus.

Reading: Oh no, I’m in a slump. Nothing is shaking it. Romance, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Romantsy. Nothing. I was recently reading The Will of Many and while I appreciated the writing, I just couldn’t. It was another DNF. So, I think I’m going to go back to my roots and pick up Madame Bovary. Maybe you’re thinking, classic literature? You can’t finish a romance novel, so you turn to 19th-century literature? And to that I say, absolutely. If you haven’t read Madame Bovary definitely do, it’s drama, romance, angst, all topped off by tragedy and tied together with a ribbon of beautiful prose. Then I’ll get back to my romances (a blog post on the importance of romance novels in modern literature is also to come).

Writing: Well, I’m here. And I’m also trying to stick to my 700ish words a day for my novel, and in the meantime, to hedge against writer’s block, I’ve been writing a little fanfic. No more to come on these, they’re slow-moving projects at best. I’m also teaching my first creative writing workshop! Much more interesting than my own writing projects tbh.

Fitness: I’m back on the Kayla Itsines “Sweat” app and meal prepping. Honestly, the weight has sorta been falling off with little effort. Blog posts on this to come as well…

Med school: alkdfladsjlfjgiwaojfv match week (probably what is driving me to shout into the internet void again)

Art: Have some trips planned, and my film cameras are loaded! Also, will be painting champagne bottles for med school graduation pictures (but that feels more craft than art to me?)

Hyperfixation songs: A-Lister by Romy Mars, Neon Stars by Wild Rivers, and The Way You Love Me by Keepsake

Alright, well, that’s the digest. My goal is to post these every Monday, and on Fridays, post a subsection piece.

Soooo, see ya Friday?
